Perth hosts some of the world's best beaches. One feature that seperates Perth beaches from the ones in Sydney, for example, is that the sand in the Eastern States is yellow, whereas the sand in Western Australia is pure white.
The beaches provide the ideal place to enjoy the Australian sunshine. Fifty percent of the population live within ten kilometres of the coastline, creating a significant 'beach culture' enjoyed by world famous places like Hawaii and California. The sun sets over the ocean in the west, something you can't experience in a holiday to the other states of Australia. Many restaurants and cafes overlook the ocean and sitting down for dinner, watching the sun-set, is a favourite passtime of most Western Australians.
